Christmas party mode is in full swing, the streets are bustling with people looking to get home late at night and we all know that feeling of hanging around in the freezing cold. You want to get home quickly, easily and most importantly, safely.

Unlicensed minicabs are rife around the festive period and using one potentially puts you at risk. You have no guarantee about the background of the driver and you certainly don’t know how safe the vehicle is. That’s why GetTaxi would like to take this opportunity to remind you all of a very serious message this Christmas and New Year period:

Be sensible, be safe – never, ever use an unlicensed minicab.

If you know you’re going to be travelling home late after a night out, plan your journey home in advance, stick with friends and pay attention to your surroundings. Text a friend when your journey starts and then text them when your journey ends.

You can’t always tell if a minicab is booked or not, so take extra care and remember these simple tips to stay safe:

– The vehicle might have a licence sticker, but if you haven’t booked it with a licensed firm, it’s illegal and unsafe. All journeys with a licensed minicab must be booked through their operating office

– If a driver approaches you, or you approach them, this does not mean your ride is booked. This procedure is illegal. It means there is no record of the driver, vehicle or the journey intended. That makes it untraceable should something happen. Don’t risk it

– Just because a bouncer or someone with a clipboard has hailed you a minicab, it does not mean it’s booked. Ensure you are booking through an official office. The only cab you can hail legally is a licensed Black Taxi. If in doubt, find another solution to continue your journey

It’s December and it’s officially party season, meaning it’s time for you all to have a right ol’ Christmas knees up to see out 2014. We know you’ve got your GetTaxi sorted so you can sprint out of the office party as soon as you see the mistletoe make an appearance, but have you sorted the rest of your social get-togethers? You can search for events by category, by your location and there’s even a brand-spanking new app update for you to stick your Clause into this Christmas.

First up and live is the GetTaxi Advent Calendar. All you need to know is that we’re offering you the chance to win different prizes every day. There’ll be stuff from us and stuff from our amazing partners, so keep your eyes peeled. Because, what’s Christmas without a little giving?

Cancer Research UK

Today also marks the kick-off of our very special partnership with Cancer Research UK (CRUK). This Christmas, GetTaxi want to encourage everyone to give as much as they can to a charity and cause that’s close to our hearts. We’re delighted to be working with CRUK to raise health awareness, a ton of donations and hope you can help us out here.

If you’re starting your journey in zones 3 – 6 and travelling a distance of 10km or less, your taxi fare will cost just £5 from now until the end of the year. Better still, traffic and time don’t affect the £5 flat rate so why not take a friend to the West End or a fiver cab down to Camden Town?

Black Cabs are the safest way to travel around London and with the cold, winter nights getting darker and darker, it’s reassuring to know when you ride GetTaxi, you’re stepping into a fully licensed and regulated vehicle, complete with a licensed driver behind the wheel. It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for drivers.

We’re pleased to announce that the GetTaxi Driver App has landed and is available to all drivers. You can now choose between using the app or the tablet, whatever works best for you and your cab. If you’d like to swap your tablet for the app, simply fill out the information in this link and someone from the Driver Services team will contact you to complete your registration.

Whether you’re returning your tablet or are a new driver who wants to get started, just pop into one of our offices and we can install the app for you there and then. Please remember to return everything that came with the tablet including the charger, bracket and box. You can drop in to either of the below locations between 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday.

As this is the first version of the GetTaxi Driver App, future orders aren’t available on it just yet and you won’t be able to view your job history. If you’d like access to these features, they are available on your tablet as usual and we are working hard to get these running on future versions of the app.

We’d also like to clear up the confusion that’s been spreading over the past couple of days around the £100 deposit for the tablet.

New Drivers

– When signing the T&Cs for the Driver App we take a £100 deposit to cover any potential fare discrepancies
– If you choose to leave GetTaxi, we review all the figures and will return the full amount if there are no discrepancies
– Any differences will be deducted from the £100 deposit

Existing drivers switching from tablet to app

– Drivers who are currently using the GetTaxi tablet paid up to a £100 equipment deposit
– When switching to the new app, drivers must return the tablet and sign new T&Cs associated with the app
– The new driver app T&Cs include a £100 deposit to cover any potential fare discrepancies. We automatically transfer your previous £100 equipment deposit to cover the new app deposit
– If you choose to leave GetTaxi, we review all the figures and will return the full amount if there are no discrepancies
– Any differences will be deducted from the £100 deposit

If anything’s still unclear, please give Driver Services a call on 0207 428 2210 who are happy to chat to you. We hope the new app is everything you asked for and please keep sharing your feedback with us so we can continuously improve our service. We really do appreciate it.
