Jul 21, 2014 Hot weather calls for a hot competition Posted in BLOG, News, Social, by GetTaxi team

Happy Monday taxi fans. Or not… ahhhhhhhhhh, don’t look so sad.

We wanted to let you know about our hot competition to wash away those Monday blues. And we’re not just running the competition today, we’ll be running it throughout the rest of the month of July and August. Now don’t say we never give you anything.

One lucky follower is in with the chance of winning £50 GetTaxi credit this afternoon and the way to enter couldn’t be easier.

All you need to do is follow Roy @roythedino on Twitter (if you’re not already of course) and retweet him when you spot his post on the competition. Yep, that’s it.

We’ll pick a winner at the end of the day that each competition runs and Roy will give a massive shout out to the number one champ. Roy will be revealing the first competition of the week shortly so get following him ASAP to avoid despair and disappointment.

And don’t forget to look out for more tweets from Roy over the coming weeks to bag yourself 50 of GetTaxi’s finest. You can enter the competition each time you see Roy’s tweet unless you’re a previous winner, so the more you enter, the more chance you’ll have of winning. Go team.

Head on over to Twitter now and keep your eyes peeled for Roy’s announcement later today. Remember, the chosen one could be you so make sure you follow and retweet.

Best of luck.

Jul 15, 2014 Hackney carriage children’s charity run to the seaside Posted in Behind The Scenes, BLOG, News, by GetTaxi team

Good morning beautiful people. We want to share some heartfelt news with you here from London GetTaxi HQ that’s bound to make you all go “awwwwwwwww”.

London’s Black Cab drivers showed just how amazing they are last week on 10th July, picking up and dropping off some of our younger passengers, all in the name of a good cause.

Around a hundred brightly decorated Black Cabs lined the streets outside Victoria Park, east London ready to whisk dozens of excited kids off for ice-creams, Punch and Judy and a fun-filled day at Southend-on-Sea. That’s the way to do it!

This wonderful occasion was all thanks to The London Taxi Drivers’ Fund for Underprivileged Children which treats the youngsters to a fun day out at the seaside every year. 2014’s outing marked the 85th anniversary for the charity meaning it was even more super-duper special for everyone involved.

Staff from GetTaxi were on hand to help out giving away goodie bags to all the children and one of our driver’s even dressed up to the nines for the special event! As well as our donation, we were very happy for the chance to offer our support during the morning, and even stayed to wave bye-bye to the kids as they set off on their waterfront adventure. Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside….!

If you’d like to learn more, or to donate to The London Taxi Drivers’ Fund for Underprivileged Children, just click here. We’re proud to support a charity so close to our hearts and can’t wait for the next event.

Rumour has it Roy the Dino may be at the next one. Where? He’s behind youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

Don’t forget, you can book GetTaxi any time, anywhere. It’s so easy (maybe too easy). Search for GetTaxi, download the app and save £10 on your first ride using coupon code ‘LDN10’. See. You don’t have to be a neuropsychologist, do you?

Jun 26, 2014 Pssssst….fancy some free money from GetTaxi? Posted in News, Technologies, by GetTaxi team

Hey you. Yeah you. Listen up – we got something big to tell you.

Ever fancied making free money? Of course you bloody have. Well, how about earning it by giving away cash? That’s right, giving away cash. Don’t pull that face, we’re serious you know.

All you have to do is download the GetTaxi app, share your unique code with your mates and they’ll get £10 off their 1st ride. Every time one of them redeems it, you’ll get £10 credit added to your GetTaxi account. You could earn up to £500. Sweet eh?

Basically, the more your code is used the more GetTaxi credit you’ll earn. I guess the only question is, how popular are you? Well come on, don’t be shy – how popular are you?

Firstly, if you haven’t already (and where have you been?), you can download the GetTaxi app here: http://dl.gettaxi.co.uk
Now, here’s how to start making your taxi ride wonga:

  • Make sure you’ve added your credit card details in the app, as this deal is available exclusively to credit card users. Come on, it takes 2 seconds
  • Tap the menu, then Invite Friends – you’ll see your code displayed at the bottom of the screen. Boom, it’s time to share
  • Next up, you hit the big yellow Invite Friends button to text your friends and let them know the good news
  • Wanna go even bigger? OK, it’s digital time. Tweet, facebook, or email the rest by tapping share at the bottom of the screen. Easy
  • Want to know how popular you’ve become? You’ll be notified each time credit has been added to your GetTaxi account, or just pop back to the Invite Friends feature to see who’s done what

Phew, that was simple. Now stop reading this – go get your code in the app, start inviting your mates and before you know it you’ll be swanning round town like some sort of demented taxi lover. Yeaaaaaaah, bye bye public transport, hello Black Cab!

Jun 2, 2014 We have a new friend. Say hi to Roy! Posted in BLOG, News, by GetTaxi team

This week something rather unusual happened at GetTaxi HQ. A 23 ft orange T-Rex dinosaur with a lovely smile pitched up at our office, declaring his love for our app and thanking us for finally helping him fulfil his dream of seeing the bright lights of London. It turns out this particular dinosaur, who goes by the name of Roy, has been missing from his previous home at a roadside Essex diner where he had been stationed for quite some time (65 million years to be exact).

His owner must have been very worried (so worried in fact that he even placed ‘missing’ adverts in The Metro and Evening Standard), as well as concerned members of the public who launched a #FindRoy appeal on social media. We’re happy to confirm we have let his owner know that Roy has been found safe and sound and is being well taken care of.

Roy told us of his heartbreak at being stuck at the side of the road for so long, with the reason being (violins at the ready) he just couldn’t hail a cab because his arms are too short (a common problem amongst T-Rex’s).

Needless to say, he was pretty excited when a kindly passerby put a phone in his hand – and he was able to tweet us with some questions about using our app. The rest is dino history! He says GetTaxi has changed his life and he can’t get enough of riding around in London’s iconic black cabs and exploring the capital in style.

He asked whether we would mind if he hung out for a while as he doesn’t know anybody else yet, but we’re sure he’ll have no trouble making friends. Roy’s such a nice guy, (or rather such a nice dinosaur), and just so darn excited about being in London that really, we would have to have had hearts of stone to refuse.

In fact so infectious is his enthusiasm for GetTaxi that our quick thinking friends at Forever Beta said he would make an amazing brand ambassador. They only went and got him his own website and a starring role in his own music video! Legends.

Roy currently has his feet up on the desk and is drinking a cup of tea as we speak (he takes his with milk and an unhealthy amount of sugar in case you’re wondering).

You are bound to see Roy and his happy go-lucky self out and about in London. He will be putting his dino-tourist hat on (and of course his favourite fanny pack to store his smart phone) to take in all the great sights the capital has to offer. You’re likely to find him busting some shapes in the city’s best nightclubs as you can’t drag him away from the dancefloor. And really, don’t be alarmed, although he’s 23 ft and strictly speaking a dinosaur, he is definitely one of the good guys. So be sure to say hi!

Here’s a big warm welcome to the GetTaxi family Roy, we think this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship!
